Your tasks: Your main task is leading and actively contributing to applied research projects in the competence field “structural mechanics”. This is related to collaboration and management in various applied research projects in the fields of design of composite structures, simulation of the manufacturing process for fibre-reinforced components, modelling of material behaviour of composite materials and development of manufacturing/assembly technologies. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of core competences in the institute by fostering strategic partnerships with industry representatives as well as by acquiring and developing new research projects. The job profile is completed by project management tasks, support of students’ Bachelor and Master projects in the context of our research activities and teaching support in the mechanical engineering programme with specific focus on plastics technology. For further information on the activities of IKT please visit fhnw.ch/institute-of-polymer-engineering and go to fhnw.ch/degree-programmes/engineering for more information on our degree programmes for engineers.

Your profile: You have a very good degree (MSc or PhD) in mechanical engineering / material sciences / production engineering with a strong flair for numerical methods and modelling as well as practical experience in the field of plastic processing / production of composite components and in project acquisition and management. Furthermore, you should be familiar with material characterization (mechanical and thermal analysis) and joining technology. Despite your independent working method, you are able to work effectively in a team. Furthermore, you can communicate fluently in German (working language) and English (project-related communication).
